Get a Library Card

Who can get a card? All residents of Texas are eligible to receive a free library card from the Bulverde/Spring Branch Library. Children under the age of 18 can also receive a card with the signature of a parent or legal guardian. You must come into the library with proof of identity to register for a card.

What do you need to get a card? You need to show some type of photo identification: a Texas Driver's License, Student ID, military ID, or employer ID, and verification of current address such as your checkbook, your voter's registration card, a utility bill or mail that is addressed to you with a recent postmark.

Fees: Your library card is free. If you lose your card, we will replace it once for free, after that it will cost $3.00 to replace.

Card benefits: Checkout up to 30 items which can include 10 DVDs and 5 audiobooks.  Access online resources such as language learning databases, downloadable ebooks, audio books and magazines, databases to help with work skills, test taking, diy, and many more.

Checkout periods: DVDs - 1 week, all other items - 2 weeks

Texshare Cards: After having and using your library card for 90 days, we can issue you a Texshare card which will allow you to check out books and return them to participating libraries. Please be aware that they must be returned to the library you checked them out from.  Find participating Texshare Libraries.  

How to Renew Materials

You are allowed to renew your materials one time as long as the item is not currently reserved (on hold) for another patron.

There are two ways to renew materials:

Online:
Click on Catalog
Click on Login in the upper right corner
Type P (space) Your library card number
Password is your last name
Click on My Account
Click on Items Out/Renew
Click on the Renew button beside the item(s) you wish to renew


By Phone:

Call the library at (830) 438-4864 with your name and/or library card number. A staff member can renew your materials for you as long as you have not reached your renewal limit and no one has it on hold (reserved).

 


Downloading Ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines


The library offers downloadable resources from the comfort of your own home. You can access all these resources and many more by logging in to your account on from our Catalog page.  To login you will need your library card number and your last name as your pin.

  • We use the Lone Star Digital Library from Overdrive to offer downloadable ebooks and audiobooks.  You will use your library card number to login and your last name as your pin to use Lone Star Digital Library.

  • We use Oneclick Digital from Recorded books to offer over 3500 multi-use (meaning no wait) audiobook titles.  You will have to set up an account with Oneclick.   The first time you set up your account, you will need to have a special access code from the library to create the account.  Call the library at 830.438.4864 for the code.We use Zinio from Recorded Books for downloading magazines.  You will have to set up an account with Zinio using a special access code from the library, call 830.438.4864 and once you are set up you can download the magazines to your device (need to have an internet connection to download) but once downloaded the magazines can be read without an internet connection.

 

How to Place a Hold

If you have found an item in our catalog you would like but it is checked out by someone else and you would like to have it reserved/held for you when they return it, follow the steps below:

  • Online: By Phone: call the library at (830) 438-4864 with your name and/or library card number.  A staff member can check for the item you are interested in and place the hold on the item for you.
    • Click on Catalog

    • Click on Login in the upper right corner

    • Type Your library card number

    • The password is your last name

    • Search the catalog for the item you wish to hold

    • Click on the title and a separate box will appear with the information about the article

    • Click on the Reserve Title box

    • You will select how you wish to be notified and then click Place Reserve.
